Arsenal consider late move for AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez

Arsenal are set to pursue left-back Ricardo Rodriguez as Premier League transfer window ends later this week.

Arsenal have been extremely busy in this year’s transfer window. Since Unai Emery’s appointment at the helm, they have been racking up signings at their own will. Ricardo Rodriguez is the latest name to emerge onto the former Sevilla manager’s wish list. The Spanish boss is looking to make a late swoop for the Milan left back.

Arsenal’s first choice left back Sead Kolasinac suffered an injury in their International Champions Cup fixture against Chelsea in Dublin. The blow is set to be heavy for him and the club as the medical staff has indefinitely ruled him out. Emery said that he expects the former Schalke 04 left back to be out for at least ten weeks.

The Gunners don’t have enough cover for the 25 year old. Nacho Monreal left Spain’s World Cup dugout with an injury as well, and has not yet featured in any of Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies. With both his left backs ruled out with a date of return yet to be confirmed, Emery is forced to look out of his ship and feels that Ricardo Rodriguez is an ideal option.

The left back’s position was covered by Ainsley Maitland-Niles following Kolasinac’s injury versus Chelsea. However, Emery feels the need to have an experienced and established option to step up. As a result, he is ready to shell out cash to land the former Wolfsburg man. AC Milan want £30 million for the left back’s services and Emery is ready to issue the pay cheque in order to bring his target.

The Gunners are now in a race against time as the Premier League’s transfer window closes on Thursday. They have already signed five players this summer with Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Mateo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis Papastathophoulos all agreeing moves to the Emirates. Steven N’Zonzi, Ousmane Dembele and Ricardo Rodriguez are still on their radars as they look to sign a few more players ahead of Thursday.

They begin a new era officially on Sunday. Manchester City will be the visitors to the Emirates Stadium in what is set to be a feisty encounter.
