Mateo Kovacic set for Chelsea loan

Mateo Kovacic is one of the world’s best midfield promises. The 24 year old joined Real Madrid three years ago from Inter Milan, but has failed to nail down to a starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu. At the end of last season, he showed his displeasure and hinted at a probable exit at the end of the Champions League final in May.

Since then, Kovacic was extremely busy with his international commitments. He almost went all the way in Russia only for France to stop Croatia. However, he is now back in Madrid after an extended leave granted by Julen Lopetegui. The Croat already had meetings with the new coach regarding his desire to leave. However, the former Porto boss insisted that Kovacic formed a part of his plans for this season in spite of his desire to leave.

On Monday, Kovacic decided to take a rigid and unethical decision of refusing to train for Real Madrid. He made the decision of boycotting the club following stagnant talks over his future. He did not want to train until his future was resolved. However, he did come to Ciudad de Real Madrid on Tuesday morning where the club officials assured him of a happy ending. They told Kovacic that his transfer request would be granted but only a loan move was feasible. Hence, the 24 year old completed a training session in the club’s complex.

Mateo Kovacic is now on the radar of Chelsea who are plotting a loan move. The Blues have already added Jorginho to their ranks and a loan move for Kovacic, irrespective of whether it’s a year-long or two, will have earned them a fabulous player. The agreement over Kovacic’s loan is set to be announced in the next few hours and the player will jet off to London for new beginnings.

With that said, it is a brilliantly worked deal for both clubs. While Chelsea get a top player for no ‘transfer fee’ for one or two seasons, Real Madrid will have a strong grip onto a player who has the potential to match the likes of Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric.
