Stephen Curry finally set a new game 7 scoring record with his last night’s performance against the Kings. He dropped 50 points in a thrilling win to create history. However, before Curry’s monstrous night, the record was held by his former teammate, Kevin Durant. The Slim Reaper set the previous record of 48 points in Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 7 back in 2021.

Curry proved yesterday that he is one of the most lethal offensive forces this game has ever seen. It seemed like he was unstoppable and nothing the Kings defense did ever fazed him during the game.

Much like Curry, Durant had a similar game in 2021 against the Bucks. He absolutely dominated in Game 7 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals. However, unlike Steph, his performance eventually proved futile.

Kevin Durant dropped 48 against the Bucks

It is iconic how the two highest scores in Game 7 both belong to players who have worn the Golden State Warriors colors. However, there are some key differences between the outcomes of KD’s 48 points and Curry’s 50 points.

In 2021, the much anticipated Brooklyn Nets faced the Milwaukee Bucks in the conference semifinals back in 2021. Durant led the Nets’ side against the dominant Bucks.

Giannis Anteteokounmpo and Co. were too good that season. Even in the series against the Nets, they forced the series to game 7. However, they quickly realized in the decider match that Kevin Durant had come to court with a mission.

He dropped 48 points and registered 9 rebounds and 6 assists. He landed 17 of his 36 attempts in the game and the Bucks had absolutely no answer to his offensive abilities. However, Milwaukee prevailed over the Nets (115-11) and knocked them out of the playoffs.

Stephen Curry is now the new record holder

What Stephen Curry did last night was another demand for respect. Curry is continuously convincing the league that he is among the greatest to ever play the game. It wouldn’t be a stretch to even consider him among the top 5 players to ever grace the basketball court.

The 50-point performance was an undeniable show of strength. Curry is capable of overwhelming the opposition’s defense by himself. There aren’t many players in the league who can be as clutch as Steph in a Game 7.
