“I’ll Play With Elders Only”: How Virat Kohli Convinced His Mother To Continue Playing With Seniors Despite Getting Hit on Chest
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has reached Delhi to face Delhi Capitals in their next Indian Premier League 2023 match. This is Kohli’s home city and RCB uploaded a video on their social media handles where they shared some childhood stories of the ace batter.
Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, revealed an interesting incident about the former Indian skipper. Sharma said that none of the bowlers in the same age group as Kohli could get him out in the nets. Kohli was so disappointed with the level that he asked Sharma to let him practice with the seniors.
Sharma insisted Kohli was very different from the other batters in the academy. He was very focused yet naughty on the field. Sharma highlighted that Kohli was always optimistic about playing for the Indian team and he made his dream come true.
How Virat Kohli Convinced His Mother To Continue Playing With Seniors
When Kohli started practicing with the elder players, he once got hit on his chest. Kohli’s mother was obviously worried about the same, but it was Kohli who convinced her to continue training with them and the rest is history. Sharma called Kohli a “god-gifted” talent.
“Virat [Kohli] never used to get out to the juniors teammates so he came to and said ‘Put me in the elder’s group’. He once got hit on the chest, but he told his mother I’ll play with elders only. He’s special and god-gifted talent,” Rajkumar Sharma said.
In the same video, a friend of Kohli revealed that the right-handed batter wrote his ambitions of becoming a cricketer in 2002. He showed his scrapbook to prove the fact.
“I had a Scrapbook, for remembering each friend, they used to write about them and Virat Kohli has written as well, he wrote his ambition as to become an Indian cricketer in 2002 or 2003,” Kohli’s friend said.
DDCA launched Virat Kohli Pavilion in 2019
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) inaugurated Virat Kohli Pavilion at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in 2019. Rajat Sharma was DDCA’s president at that time. Kohli was grateful for the honour and he hoped that it will inspire future cricketers as well.
