Kimi Raikkonen’s military police story is absolutely brilliant

Kimi Raikkonen had to undergo military service for Finland during the early stages of his motorsport career.

Kimi hadn’t moved to F1 until then and used to use his leaves to participate in the Formula UK Championship. He then moved to F1 joining Sauber after claiming the Formula Renault UK Championship.

Raikkonen did not allow the military service period to hinder his development as a motorsport driver. Also, probably the funniest and the most bizarre incident of his life happened during his military stint.

Kimi was drunk and late to the premises and thus couldn’t use the main entrance and thus had decided to climb over the fence.

Kimi had actually hidden in ditch while the authorities caught hold of his friend. He then climbed over the fence and hid under his bed. But because his friend has ratted him out, he was caught by the authorities and was questioned about how he got inside, to which he replied, ‘That’s what you teach us here, we are scouts.’

Reddit user r/elusivesurname penned down the entire extract from Kimi’s book.

“The story about avoiding the military police is actually even better than that: he was drunk and late so he couldn’t use the main entrance, instead choosing to climb over the fence. He and his buddy were seen before they went over, Kimi hid in a ditch while his friend was caught there.

“Kimi climbed over the fence while the military police was searching for him with dogs and crawled his way back to his barrack, planning to hide there until morning.

“Unfortunately his mate had told theirs superiors about him so Kimi was caught hiding in his bed muddy and covered in twigs and leaves, also drunk.

“When his superiors questioned him about how the fuck he got past the dogs he answered: “That’s what you teach us here, we are scouts.” He got confined to barracks for about 20 days which was the new unofficial record.” he wrote.
