Racing Point Force India CEO wants engine allocation to be reset for the team
Racing Point Force India CEO wants engine allocation to be reset in wake of their points being reset after team name change.
Racing Point Force India has had a rebirth, a reincarnation if you may and is now raring to go.
However, the scars of the past still linger, as the FIA and Liberty Media have confirmed that the team would start with zero points, as the entry name wasn’t purchased by Lawrence Stroll(and his consortium) and essentially a new entity had to be set up.
Amidst all the legal complication, Force India’s rivals were not open to the team being a part of the prize money distribution for this year. The reluctance to let such a deal go through was causing mayhem in the F1 world, as it was being suggested that Force India wouldn’t take part in Spa.
A deal though got worked out last night, wherein a middle ground was agreed upon, with the team getting to be a a part of the prize distribution for this year, but having to forego all of his accumulated points.
Now, Otmar Szafnauer, the newly appointed CEO of Racing Point Force India has raised a very pertinent question with respect to the ‘resets’ that his team have had to go through.
While the points have been reset for them in the constructor’s championship, he wants to know why the engine usage allocation hasn’t been reset.
Otmar Szafnauer says he has no idea why, as a new entrant, Racing Point Force India don’t get a new engine allocation. They’ve lost their points because they had to start a new entry, so doesn’t understand why if everything from the past has gone, engine usage remains.

Now, while this may seem like a valid point at first, you have to take into consideration the fact that, both Ocon and Perez do keep their individual points intact. Thus, if the engine usage allocation would have been reset, it wouldn’t have been fair to the other drivers on the circuit.
What do you think about Szafnauer’s statement?
