Fernando Alonso Gets Big Boost Against Max Verstappen As ‘Abnormal Conditions’ Predicted for Spanish Grand Prix

As per recent developments, Fernando Alonso has received a huge boost ahead of the 2023 F1 Spanish Grand Prix. Alonso, who is pushing hard for his 33rd race win for a decade now, might just pick the winner’s trophy with rain in his favor.

Rain has always proved to be an important decider when it comes to Formula 1. With different strategies, a driver with moderate qualification performance can end up winning if they can master the wet track.

As much as rain brings entertaining races for the viewers, it at times kills dreams. As happened with Lando Norris in 2021, when his miscalculated strategy handed Lewis Hamilton his 100th Grand Prix win in Russia.

With that said Alonso will be looking for possibilities to topple Max Verstappen on a rainy day in Spain. If luck favors him, he might just pull off the much anticipated 33rd GP win.

Alonso’s impetus against Verstappen

In spite of claiming multiple podiums this season, Alonso and Aston Martin are still in need of a win. However, with the mighty RB-19s and Verstappen, sealing a win so far has been tough.

But there’s a silver lining for the British team and the Spaniard. As the weather reports say, there are chances of rain next week in Catalunya. As per Spanish media outlet OK Diario, the State Meteorological Agency said there will be rain around the circuit.

However, the reports do not forecast 100% rain, but it is believed that there will be 80% rain. With that said, the Spaniard needs to take advantage of the ‘abnormal situation’ or any situation where the Dutchman is involved in an accident, in order to claim the win.

Fernando Alonso and his desperation to win

Aston Martin and Alonso have improved enormously in 2023. They are nowhere they were in 2022, with Alonso spearheading their attack with five podiums in six races. However, they still have an unfulfilled wish.

Admittedly, Alonso and his team’s bull’s eye is a race win this season. Despite having multiple podiums in their bag, all they need now is the top spot in the podium stand and subsequently the national anthem.

However, in the way stands tall, the Dutch pilot. The 41-year-old failed to get the better of the Red Bull driver on multiple occasions, even when the situation wasn’t on his way.

Verstappen had a deficit in Monaco qualification, even after this he managed to claim the pole position. Furthermore, his calm and composed nature handed him the win in a rain intervened race in the Principality.

On top of that, the Spanish GP track, being a different one to Monaco, might give an extra edge to Fernando Alonso, who comes to his own backyard with a significant amount of upgrades.
