Abandoned Son Carlos Sainz Blames Ferrari For Losing the Love of Spain to Fernando Alonso
A driver’s home race is their most anticipated event of the season. And with Spain welcoming two home heroes each year, this year something was different. It was ‘Alonsomania’. Thus, Carlos Sainz couldn’t help but feel overshadowed by Fernando Alonso, who gave his countrymen good reason to cheer him on.
Alonso’s return to the front of the grid has been one of the most incredible storylines this season. Thus, fans have been putting on their green Aston Martin caps, cheering the legend’s return. On the other hand, Sainz and Ferrari have only fallen further down the grid- the cause behind his drop in popularity, according to Sainz.
Fernando Alonso soaks in all the love in Spain, leaving Carlos Sainz dry
Carlos Sainz does feel the pain of the lack of love from his countrymen during his home race. However, he also understands why this is taking place. “It’s not that I felt it, it’s that I see it, but I understand it perfectly. It seems natural to me. Fernando has been a two-time world champion. He made me want to be a Formula 1 driver. It’s something that doesn’t bother me or worry me.”

Thus, as his idol returns to the center stage in the hearts of Spanish fans, Sainz emphasizes he continues to race for his flag wholeheartedly. “I’m also in F1, giving everything for myself and for Spain. I go to all the races to represent my country with the best of my intentions.”
However, he blames Ferrari for this loss of love and support from his motherland. Feeling abandoned and neglected, Sainz believes if Ferrari were doing better, he would not be subjected to this. “If Ferrari were there for victories and podiums, it would also be easier, it’s a car that lets you show off little and the fans don’t like that.”

Ferrari has been far from where they were last season. Both the drivers are yet to step on the podium in a season filled with errors and bad luck.
Sainz loses hope against Red Bull
Sainz speaks with an air of hopelessness. While he hopes to win back the love of his fans, he knows it’s impossible against Red Bull. The dominant Bulls have been untouchable on top; it’s a miracle Alonso even came close.
Sainz opens up on the challenge against Red Bull. “One of the most dominant cars in recent years. They don’t fail, and they don’t have so much pressure, because we’re not close. They are at such a high and dominant level that it’s difficult to force them too to the error.”
However, despite the gaping difference in their performances, Sainz hopes Ferrari could put him on the podium. “It doesn’t mean that we can’t win races, and then I’ll be ready to fish for a victory or a podium.”
As the Ferrari drivers continue to dream of coming close to replicating what the 2022 season looked like, Red Bull makes it far from.” possible
