For a Higher Purpose, Lewis Hamilton Does Not Want to Win
Lewis Hamilton is still on the hunt for his eighth World Championship title after he narrowly missed out on it in 2021. The Briton desperately wants redemption after the infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix of 2021.
However, ever since the start of the 2022 season, things have not been easy for Hamilton. Mercedes have failed to provide Hamilton with a car that can fight for race wins ever since the new regulations were introduced in F1.
Hamilton’s last race win dates back to the Saudi Arabian GP in 2021. It has been 31 races since, and Hamilton has even managed to finish P2, but victory has always eluded the Mercedes star.

Although, things have recently gotten back on track for Mercedes after their performance saw a huge boost following the upgrades at Monaco. However, despite back-to-back podiums for Hamilton, he has claimed that he would not mind sacrificing a race win for something much bigger.
Lewis Hamilton has his eyes set on the 2024 championship
At the press conference ahead of the Austrian GP, Hamilton revealed that his aim is not to win one or two races this year, it is much bigger. The seven-time world champion wants to fight for the championship in 2024.
Hamilton said, “I don’t think winning a race this year should be a huge focus, a lot of it should be on making sure we start next year at the front.” Hamilton wants his team to focus on the 2024 car and not worry about making upgrades to the current one.

While talking to another set of media houses, he expressed even more clearly “I care less to win a race this year and more to win the championship next year.” It is clear that Hamilton believes that Mercedes would be able to fight for the title if they start working on it now.
Mercedes have started to set things right
Mercedes are slowly inching towards the front of the grid. Their new upgrades worked wonders and as a result, Hamilton managed to claim two back-to-back podiums in Canada and Spain.
Hamilton has said it clearly that the design direction that the Mercedes is heading towards right now is not something that Hamilton wanted. However, according to Mercedes engineers, they are just one major upgrade away from victory.
Mercedes’ Monaco upgrades were just a “prototype for a whole series of developments.”
Mercedes has since learned a lot and has found big improvements.

Mercedes believes that they can catch up with Red Bull soon, and a new upgrade package is arriving at Silverstone. Fans would desperately want to see a fight for race wins, but whether Mercedes would be able to provide them with one, remains to be seen.
