Dhoni on captaincy resignation: ‘Wanted to give the new captain enough time’
Dhoni on captaincy resignation: MS Dhoni discloses the real reason behind him resigning from the Indian captaincy.
Former Indian captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has finally revealed the true reason behind his surprise resignation from captaincy. In which was a reason that many people wanted to listen, it should seem justifiable to everyone.
During a motivational program with the CISF at the Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, Dhoni answered several questions including this one. “I resigned from captaincy because I wanted the new captain to get enough time for preparing a team before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019”, he said.
“Selecting a strong team without giving the new captain appropriate time isn’t possible. I believe that I left the captaincy at the right time”, the 37-year old wicket-keeper batsman further added on this topic.
On being asked about the Indian team’s dismal performance in the ongoing series against England, Dhoni put it on lack of batsmen’s ability to adjust to foreign conditions. “Indian team missed out on playing practices matches before the series, which is why the batsmen are finding it difficult to adjust. This is a part of game. We shouldn’t forget that India is currently No. 1 in the rankings”, Dhoni said.
Dhoni was seen breaking a coconut as he inaugurated the Tiger Hut. On being asked about the reason which keeps him happy all the time, Dhoni answered, “My being happy and calm is due to my fitness. If you remain fit, you will enjoy your work. Therefore, staying fit is necessary.”
Dhoni’s next international assignment is the upcoming Asia Cup where India faces Hong Kong in the first match at Dubai on September 18. In a sans Virat Kohli squad, the responsibility is likely to increase on Dhoni’s shoulders under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, especially with batting in the middle-order.
