Dhoni on retirement: “Ups and downs are part of a player’s career”

Dhoni on retirement: Speaking at a recent event, former India captain rubbished all reports retirement saying that ups and down are part of a player’s career.

There comes a time in every legendary player’s career when people start to question their ability and eventually expect the player to call it a day as far as the national team is concerned. Of late Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former Indian captain and current wicket-keeper batsman, is also going through such a phase where there have been questions regarding his retirement.

These talks have been prevalent since at least a couple of years now. However, Dhoni has come back strong in these test of times, proving it to the world that he still has it in him to perform at the highest level.

During a motivational event with the CISF staff in Ranchi, Dhoni put down all these rumors of him retiring. During the interaction, Dhoni was also critical in describing the media’s role in picking a player and making him the scapegoat without much reason.

“See, whatever news the media runs, it is firstly important to not get into it or lend an hear to it. I agree if it is constructive criticism. But that is not the case. I am not saying that they target me exclusively. They might pick any one player according to the weather”, he said amusingly.

“We try our best to avoid that pressure. Ups and downs are part of a players’s career. What is important is how you come back into form after a lean patch”, he added.

“And if you watch news regularly, you would observe that they target one player for 10 days. It seems as if that player should be immediately dropped. However, if that player scores even a half-century in the next match, they will praise him to the extent that you won’t find another player as good as him. So, this is how it goes.

“We try our best to avoid this pressure. When we enter the field, this avoidable pressure isn’t on our mind. It helps us in playing in the way we want to and not how others expect us to play”, he further said.
