Toro Rosso interested in singing Mick Schumacher
With the Raikkonen-Leclerc saga finally coming to an end last night, the driver market can now finally move onto the other available seats for 2019 and how they will be filled in the coming few weeks.
Gasly’s upgrade to Red Bull means that Toro Rosso have a vacancy. Lot of young drivers seem to be in contention for that one spot, and Mick Schumacher is the latest entrant to that long list of drivers that could drive for Toro Rosso next year, as reported by Motorsport.com Italy.
Schumacher presently drives in Formula 3, representing Prema and is currently in 2nd spot, 3 points behind Dan Ticktum.
This is Schumacher’s first real Formula 1 link, as it had been earlier assumed that he would first want to make the switch to F2, rather than jumping into the world of F1.
And while that still maybe what’s in store for him, but he does have his first official F1 link.
While normally drivers don’t make the jump from F3 to F1, we do have two examples from the recent past, with Verstappen and Stroll both making the giant leap of faith into F1 from F3.
Mick is line to get a license to race in F1, provided he finishes in the top 3 of the F3 driver standings. If all goes according to plan, Mick should be able to legally make the switch, but will Toro Rosso go ahead with him when they already have option of Kyvat, Buemi and Jean-Eric Vergne.
The decision would of course be upto Schumacher, who just might want to wait a season or two, but going by how crazy this year’s silly season has been, one could see Schumacher at Toro Rosso next season.
