Everybody has the right to speak, feels Virender Sehwag on Virat Kohli controversy
Virender Sehwag on Virat Kohli controversy: Former Indian opener was vocal about the recent controversy regarding Virat Kohli.
Former Indian swashbuckling opening batsman Virender Sehwag has expressed his views on the recent controversy regarding India captain Virat Kohli.
Apparently, Kohli made a comment on social media, asking an individual to ‘leave’ India if he doesn’t like his own countrymen. This was said after the individual in question had stated his views regarding enjoying watching Australian and English cricketers more than the Indian cricketers.
Circumstances worsened to an extent that an official of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India said that Kohli might have violated his central contract with such a comment, asking him to respect the fans. The Supreme Court-appointed CoA (Committee of Administrators), a two-member panel, is also set to investigate into the matter.
Kohli’s comments saw him getting trolled on social media, alluring numerous critical remarks. In a bid to reply to the same, Kohli took to his Twitter account to support ‘freedom of choice’.
I guess trolling isn’t for me guys, I’ll stick to getting trolled! 😁
I spoke about how “these Indians” was mentioned in the comment and that’s all. I’m all for freedom of choice. 🙏 Keep it light guys and enjoy the festive season. Love and peace to all. ✌😊— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) November 8, 2018
On being asked about the whole issue, Sehwag was of the opinion that he also enjoyed watching foreign athletes and that everyone has the right to speak. Adding to that, he also criticised the media for ‘blowing up’ such incidents.
“Everybody has the right to speak. We have also been asked who our favourite player is and I have taken names like Roger Federer, Brian Lara and Adam Gilchrist. Fans have the right to choose their favourite players and so do the players. Only the media blows up incidents like these and creates controversies,” Sehwag was quoted as saying to India Today.
