“Bowling four overs won’t make you tired,” says Dhoni on Indian bowlers playing IPL
Dhoni on Indian bowlers playing IPL: Former Indian captain passes his verdict on India’s limited-overs specialists participation in the IPL.
There are a lot of apprehensions regarding the participation of India’s limited-overs specialist bowlers in the 12th season of the IPL (Indian Premier League). With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 scheduled to start right after the cash-rich league, there were suggestion of resting India’s premier bowlers for the IPL.
A big fan of workload management, India captain Virat Kohli had advocated the idea in a bid to keep his bowlers fresh for the world event. On the other hand, CoA member Diana Edulji had spoken of players playing the full tournament after the recently concluded IPL auction.
Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has shared his views on the same and seems to be contradicting Kohli. Speaking during the book launch of former BCCI President N. Srinivasan, Dhoni said that the bowlers should take part in the full tournament.

Pointing out the nature of T20 cricket and the pressure involved, Dhoni said that it will act as an ideal platform for the bowlers to prepare for the World Cup, provided they take care of the circumstances around them.
“Bowling four overs won’t make you tired. The four overs actually keeps you at your best, you are bowling the yorkers, bowling the variation and playing under pressure. I feel the bowlers can still play the whole of the IPL but what they need to manage is what they eat, when they sleep and wake up,” Dhoni was quoted.
The 37-year old cricketer also said that IPL is the best time for him to get into shape. “I would like them to be at their best when it comes to the skill factor. I always felt IPL was the best time to get in shape because I had a lot of time. I was playing only three and a half hours every third day and it gave me time to spend in the gym,” Dhoni added.
