MS Dhoni’s single-handed defense off Ish Sodhi: The Indian wicket-keeper batsman put on display a strange defensive stroke at Auckland.
During the second T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Auckland, former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni put on display an unusual stroke to sneak a run against New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi.
Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 14th over, Dhoni was left to score almost at a run a ball alongside the set batsman in Rishabh Pant. In a harmless situation, Dhoni didn’t try to do anything fancy in his unbeaten innings of 20 (17).
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 16th over when a wise Sodhi fired the ball way outside the off-stump after having watched the sight of Dhoni stepping down the ground. In a bid to make contact with the ball, Dhoni did well to defend the ball with one hand, albeit from a difficult position. With the ball going towards the cover region, Dhoni and Pant also ran a single.

The wicket-keeper batsman-duo stitched together a 44-run partnership which saw them sealing the chase for India in the penultimate over. Pant ended up scoring 40* (28) with the help of four fours and a six.
Having lost the last match by a whopping 80 runs, India did well to register a 7-wicket victory today. With the series level at 1-1, one expects the deciding third T20I to be a riveting contest.
