F1 News and Rumors : Red Bull ahead of Mercedes claims Helmut Marko
Honda seems to be sending shockwaves across the F1 paddock in Barcelona. With the Japanese engine supplier rediscovering its true self this season, Red Bull are certain to benefit.
The data received by Red Bull over the first two days of testing has given them massive hope for the 2019 season.
While teams are not showing their ‘true colours’ in testing, teams can project how quick others cars on the grid can be come raceday in Australia.
Honda boss, Toyoharu Tanabe, has admitted that the team has been working hard on improving pace and reliability, and should be able to target for the championship this season.
“We have been able to greatly improve reliability and at the same time increase performance,” Honda F1 boss Toyoharu Tanabe said as per Speed Week.
“But we always make winning the goal, whether it is F1 or another series
“Our goal is certainly to achieve better results than last year with both teams.” he added.
Now, while comments from Honda’s boss could not mean a lot to Red Bull fans, when Helmut Marko speaks, Red Bull fans do listen.
Marko has confirmed that currently Red Bull are ahead of Mercedes, but still remain behind Ferrari.
“We see Ferrari ahead of us at the moment, but we are not worried about the times,” said Helmut Marko.
“We are ahead of Mercedes.” he added.
Christian Horner too has given a positive feedback about the car and has conceded that both Gasly and Max feel very positive about the car.
“We are fully on schedule. The car works as we predicted, and the Honda engine is a rocket.
“Pierre Gasly told us that the engine is better than last year’s. And Max is raving about it. He feels much more power.” Horner said.
Ferrari have been impressive in testing, largely because of their new front wing.
However, Horner has confirmed that Red Bull will not be using Ferrari’s front wing model.
“What we have works best for us,” he said.
“We looked at the Ferrari concept but our simulations tell us that our wing has more potential.” he added.
