Will AB de Villiers play today vs CSK: The participation of the legendary batsman has it in it to affect the course of the match tonight.

Veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman AB de Villiers wasn’t a part of the RCB XI which defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs in a cliffhanger on the day before yesterday. The fact that Bangalore’s second IPL 2019 victory came without de Villiers speaks highly about their improved performance against KKR.

After RCB were put in to bat at Eden Gardens, captain Virat Kohli’s fifth IPL century guided his team to 213/4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. With Kohli and all-rounder Moeen Ali dominating the hosts’ bowlers, RCB didn’t miss de Villiers to an extent that they would have missed otherwise.

While the team management would be hoping for the senior duo of Kohli and Ali to continue leading in the batting division, de Villiers’ presence will unequivocally aid them especially against the table-toppers in Chennai Super Kings.

It is worth mentioning that de Villiers had suffered a mild concussion after getting hit on the helmet in the nets. While the injury was nothing much to worry about, there hasn’t been a final confirmation on his participation for tonight’s match.

Going by reports in ESPNcricinfo, de Villiers’ availability will be subject to a return to full fitness.

In the eight matches which de Villiers has played in IPL 2019, he has scored 307 runs at an average of 51.16 and a strike rate of 154.27 including four half-centuries. With a couple of victories in nine matches, Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently at the bottom of the points table.
