Faf du Plessis 96 vs KXIP: Twitter was exhilarated on witnessing Chennai Super Kings opening batsman’s responsible vs KXIP.

During the 55th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at Mohali, Chennai Super Kings opening batsman Faf du Plessis registered his maiden IPL century to propel his team to a handsome 170/5 in 20 overs.

Opening the batting with Shane Watson, du Plessis’ peak came during the 120-run partnership for the second wicket between him and Suresh Raina. With both the senior batsman scoring individual half-centuries for CSK, they gave the middle-order a solid foundation.

At the halfway mark, Super Kings had scored 79/1. With a single on the first ball off Murugan Ashwin, the duo completed their 50-run stand. On the first ball of the 16th over, du Plessis scored a boundary off Andrew Tye to bring the 100-run stand.

It was Raina who walked back to the pavilion in 17th over off Sam Curran. In what was his third half-century of the season, the southpaw scored 53 (38) with the help of five fours and a couple of sixes.

On the brink of scoring his maiden IPL century, du Plessis was found clueless against all-rounder Sam Curran who bowled the South African captain. In what was an outstanding knock, du Plessis ended up scoring 96 (55) with the help of 10 fours and four sixes.

For Punjab, Curran (4-0-35-3) was the pick of their bowlers.
