Mumbai Indians will be playing their fourth Indian Premier League final against Chennai Super Kings tonight. For captain Rohit Sharma, it will be his third final against the defending champions. Been the captain of the side in all the matches, it speaks highly about how his leadership has changed Indians’ fortune in the tournament.

While Indians lost (by 22 runs) to Super Kings in 2010, they registered victories against them in 2013 (23 runs) and 2015 (41 runs).

Talking of Sharma, while he scored 2 (5) in IPL 2013 final, he scored a match-winning 50 (26) with the help of six fours and two sixes in IPL 2015 final. Sharma came in to bat at No. 4 and No. 3 in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Slated to open the innings this year, tonight will be the first time that Sharma will be playing an IPL final against Super Kings outside of Eden Gardens.

In the third IPL final which Mumbai played under Sharma was against Rising Pune Supergiant at Hyderabad in 2017. Coming in to bat at No. 4, Sharma had scored 24 (22) with the help of four fours. Having already won a final (by 1 run) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sharma would be aware of what to do and what not to do tonight.

In 21 overall matches against Super Kings, Sharma has scored 631 runs at an average of 33.21 and a strike rate of 128.78 including seven half-centuries.

Among all MI batsmen, Sharma has scored the most runs against CSK. With him yet to play an archetype innings in IPL 2019, you never know if the MI skipper has saved his best for the last. In 14 matches this year, Sharma has scored 390 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 129.56 including a couple of half-centuries.
