Victor Wembanyama Surpasses Stephen Curry, James Harden in Impressive 3-Point Feat
Victor Wembanyama continues to amaze his teammates and fans alike, reaching milestones almost at will. En route to a mammoth 30-point, 10-block night against the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday, the French phenom made four 3-pointers. With the third long-ranger, the San Antonio Spurs star reached the 200 career 3-pointers made mark in the NBA.
Having played just 94 regular season games, Wembanyama became the 15th fastest player in NBA history to achieve this milestone. It took him 601 attempts to knock them down, going 33.27% from the deep.
He overtook some 3-point legends while reaching the mark. According to Jordan Howenstine of the Spurs, Wemby got to 200 3s faster than Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Ray Allen.

Steph, Harden, and Allen stand as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively, in the all-time list of number of 3-pointers scored. At the moment, Wemby seems to have the best chance of surpassing them in any 3-point record.
Comparing Wembanyama, Curry, and Harden’s first 200 3s
Curry and Harden were both drafted in 2009. Back then, 3-pointers were a part of the game but did not hold the same importance they do today. The two players have changed the game with their ability to let the ball fly from behind the arc on a consistent basis with accuracy.
Steph or Harden’s numbers could have been higher if they started off in this era. Despite being guards, they attempted 380 and 248 3s in their rookie seasons.
On the other hand, Wembanyama, a center, took 394 3-pointer attempts in his first year. Here is a statistical comparison of their first 200 3-pointers:
| Road to 200 3s | ||||
| Player Name | Games | 3P Made | 3P Attempts | 3P% |
| Stephen Curry | 100 | 200 | 460 | 43.47% |
| James Harden | 150 | 200 | 528 | 37.87% |
| Victor Wembanyama | 94 | 200 | 601 | 33.27% |
Wemby, a 7-foot-4 forward, shooting at such a clip is great. But what’s more impressive is that his numbers are improving with every single game.
The Spurs sophomore, who shot 32.5% from the deep in his rookie season, has already jumped to 34.3% in his second year. The numbers for this year also include his rough start to the season from behind the 3-point line. If we exclude that, it might even cross the 40% range.
