A petition has been filed to give Kimi Raikkonen another year at Ferrari
The Raikkonen-Ferrari saga was going to come to an end yesterday, as an announcement was in line as per reports in the Italian media. However, after a day of deep anxiety has passed, we are still where we started, with both Kimi and Leclerc waiting to hear some confirmation about their fate for 2019.
While all the rumours have been hitting the market, fans have been impatiently waiting for an official announcement.
The rumour mill suggests that this will be Kimi’s last year in the sport and Leclerc will making that giant leap from Sauber to Ferrari for at least the next two seasons.
For a ‘Kimi romantic’ that comes as a massive blow, as Kimi has held his own in the sport for more than a decade.
In a world where sportspersons enjoy the limelight and want to make a ‘brand’ out of themselves through public appearances and social media interaction; Kimi has focussed just on what needs to be done on the race track.
And mind you, he has been able to create a brand despite being a man of few words.
But with his F1 journey coming to an end, fans feel they would be missing out on a lot of precious ‘Kimi moments’.
So much so that, a petition has been filed in order to force the Ferrari management to keep Kimi for 1 more year.
The petition has been addressed to F1, Ross Brawn, Ferrari, Arrivabene and Louis Camilleri and was started by Christy John
“Replacing Kimi Raikkonen just because of an existing deal made by the previous Ferrari head is not justifiable while Scuderia Ferrari’s current Head and Sebastian Vettel need Kimi to keep the balance in the team. Kimi has also outperformed Vettel number of times proving he is back on form and his drive in Monza just adds more credibility to that.” the petition reads.
More than 15000 fans have already signed the petition and it aims to get the signatures of 25000 fans.
Do you want Kimi to stick around for one more year?
