Aaron Ramsey new contract: Arsenal are close to agree a new deal with their Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Aaron Ramsey has long been in a standoff with Arsenal over his new contract. Arsenal are reportedly reluctant to bow to the demands of the Welsh footballer. Ramsey’s current wages stand at 110k pounds, while Arsenal’s January arrivals Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are on 200k pounds.

Ramsey is said to have asked for a 100 per cent hike in his wages, which Arsenal have reportedly refused.

However, Football.London now reports that Ramsey is inching closer to sign a new contract with the club. The nature of the contract is yet unknown, but sources close to the club have told the English outlet that Ramsey will ‘eventually sign’ the contract.

“Things were moving in the right direction and that he thought a new deal was not far away – which is a positive.

“I think he will eventually sign, but Arsenal really have given themselves big issues by letting themselves get into this position again,” a journalist for Football.London was quoted as saying.

In the previous season, Arsenal were in a similar standoff with Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez. However, both the parties failed to come to a mutual agreement and Sanchez left the club in January to join rivals Manchester United.

Ramsey’s contract situation, however, hasn’t hampered his place in the starting XI for Arsenal. The Welsh international has started in three of Arsenal’s four games so far, and is expected to retain his spot against Newcastle this weekend.

Arsenal are currently 9th in the Premier League with six points from four matches. They lost both of their opening games to Manchester City and Chelsea, before earning their first points at home against West Ham United.
