More details emerge from the Sammy Guevara and Impact Wrestling situation

More details emerge from the Sammy Guevara and Impact Wrestling situation. The AEW star proposed winning the X Division Championship and return without losing it.

Before the WWE began signing wrestlers to exclusive contracts, it was a common sight to see Wrestling promotions work with each other. AEW seem to have brought this trend back following their partnerships with Impact Wrestling, AAA and NJPW.

Their collaboration with impact ran the risk of breaking down recently however, following AEW star Sammy Guevara’s displeasure with the creative direction for him at Impact Wrestling. He refused to do as told and was sent back.

According to a report from Today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Guevara suggested winning Impact Wrestling’s X Division Championship. He would then return to AEW and Impact would conduct a tournament to determine the new champion.

Impact opposed the idea. They were reportedly mad with AEW for sending a talent over who refused to follow the plans they had placed for him. The report adds that Chris Jericho and Don Callis put the angle together and Guevara’s refusal resulted in Jericho looking bad.

The situation seems to have been smoothed over.

“Guevara suggested winning the X title. One story is that he wanted to win the title, and then return to AEW as having just won the title in Impact. He’d never lose it and it would go up in a tournament. Impact didn’t like that idea.

“Chris Jericho was the one who put the angle together with Don Callis. It made Jericho look bad to Impact because he and Callis came up with the idea and then Guevara didn’t want to do it. Scott D’Amore told Guevara that they didn’t need him when he arrived in Nashville if he doesn’t follow the plans that had already been agreed to.

“Impact was really mad about AEW sending talent over, them putting plans in place and then the talent wouldn’t do what was planned. Everything appears to be smoothed over now but there are those in Impact who said that the company was not happy at first with how it went down and could have impacted relationships.”

The report added that Guevara isn’t expected to return to Impact. His spot has been given to Black Taurus. The storyline with Guevara was supposed to be short. It would ultimately lead to his return to AEW as a babyface to feud with the Inner Circle.
