Manchester United and Tottenham have been informed how much they need to pay to acquire the defender from Ajax.
United and Tottenham have been heavily linked with the Dutch youngster over the past few weeks. According to The Sun, Ajax have communicated the asking price for the youngster to the Premier League duo.
Tottenham look to replace Toby Alderweired, should he leave the club for Manchester United. Meanwhile, de Ligt in an interview name-checked Manchester United in the list of clubs he would like to join.
“Who would I choose between Juve, Barcelona and United? It’s difficult, they’re all great teams,” said de Ligt.
The Sun reports that Ajax has set the value for Matthijs de Ligt at £48m. The defender was also previously linked with clubs like FC Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester City, which may have led to an increased asking price.
The youngster would be a record signing for Tottenham, should they bring him to North London. Last year, Tottenham bought Davinson Sanchez from Ajax for £42m, which is the current club record.
Meanwhile, United look forward to a defensive overhaul. Manchester United have already completed the signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto, and secured Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk. Dalot is naturally a right-back, although he played at left-back position in the Champions League match against Liverpool last season, and performed his defensive duties efficiently.
Matthijs de Ligt has been a product of Ajax’s youth academy. He has been at the club since the last 10 years.
