Alassane Plea betters Thierry Henry’s fake shot pass with stunning volley from his standing foot in the Bundesliga for Gladbach against Mainz.
The Bundesliga this season is being very closely contested between RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach all of whom have 40, 39 and 38 points so far respectively. The 3-1 win against Mainz helped them keep their title hopes well and alive.
However, it was their in-form striker Alassane Plea who stole all the headlines with his early Puskas Award worthy goal. The 26-year old has been in blistering form this season and added to his tally with a goal that left many scratching their heads.

Maybe I’ve missed it but I haven’t seen much hype about this goal?
Back swing of the front foot floors the defender thinking he’s going across the goal but instead volleys it with the standing foot..

Watching the video at real time may give the illusion that the French man mistimed his shot before the ball accidentally found his other foot. However, replays suggest that he meant to hit with his standing feet as is evidenced by the fact that he opens his other foot to meet the ball while using his regular foot as a distraction.
This is reminiscent of the fake shot pass perfected by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Here’s a video in case you missed it:
