Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims sly dig at Anthony Martial after Man City vs Man Utd Carabao Cup semi-final encounter at the Etihad.

Manchester United managed to beat Manchester City at the Etihad. However, they still crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing out on an aggregate score of 3-2. A first half goal from Nemanja Matic kept them in the game but the club failed to score the leveller.

The side came extremely close when they were awarded a free kick near City’s box in the 87th minute. Many assumed Mata would take the free kick. Instead however, it was Fred who stepped up for the spot kick duty.  Unfortunately, he crashed the ball onto City’s wall, denying United the chance to equalise.

However, with City fielding a weakened defence without Ameyric Laporte and Fernandinho, there was no reason for the Red Devils to have to end up relying on that free kick. Anthony Martial’s lack of impact ahead was telling with United only managing 2 shots on target.

After the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemed to direct a dig towards Anthony Martial, as he spoke of his desire to get a gritty striker at Old Trafford; One “who wants to break their nose or toes” to score. While many have seen this as the Norwegian wanting to bring in another forward before the transfer window closes, Fans believe that this is Ole indirectly telling Martial that he isn’t doing what is expected of him.

Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United

Like any other transfer window, United have been linked with several names. However, Bruno Fernandes is the only confirmed signing so far. And even then, the deal will only complete post a medical and contract agreement between the player and the club.

The Portuguese will be a welcome addition at the club and will provide Solskjaer with a goal scoring threat from the middle. With the absence of Marcus Rashford and the unlikelihood of United purchasing a striker before the window closes, Fernandes will be extremely crucial for United heading into the last few months of the season.
