Alberto Moreno on Klopp: The Liverpool defender lost his place in the XI to Andy Robertson this season.

Liverpool have been in brilliant form this season. Klopp’s side is the only club to remain unbeaten in the league so far, and sit comfortably at the top of the table.

Liverpool extended their lead to five points in the league after Manchester City faced another stunning defeat to Leicester City on Boxing day.

Guardiola’s City has now slipped to third position in the league, and are seven points behind Liverpool, while Tottenham are second.

While the Liverpool side is one of the strongest in the Premier League era, there could be tensions brewing in the camp. The side’s defender Alberto Moreno has accused Jurgen Klopp of unfair treatment since his return from injury.

Alberto Moreno on Klopp:

The Liverpool defender suffered an ankle injury in December last year. He was a regular starter before the injury, but lost his place to Andy Robertson at the beginning of this season.

The side boasts of the best defence in the league this season, as Liverpool have conceded only 7 goals this season in 19 games.

“I didn’t feel [the decision to stick with Robertson] well, I was injured giving my best for our team,” Moreno told Spanish media outlet Ondacero.

“I disliked Klopp’s decision because I was training but when I returned he only wanted Robertson.”

Moreno, however, has insisted that his relationship with Klopp hasn’t taken a hit.

“My relationship with Klopp hasn’t changed but since this injury, I didn’t have a meeting with him but our relationship is normal.

“I disliked the way that Klopp has treated me but I understand his situation that he can’t change [Robertson] because the team is winning.”

Despite his difference in opinion with the manager, Moreno insisted that the atmosphere in the dressing room remains intact.

“The dressing room is very close, we are a family,” Moreno said.

However, the defender claims that he is yet to agree over a new deal with the club due to his place in the side.

“Liverpool has proposed renewing me but no agreement has been reached, in January the market opens and we will see.

“To this day we have nothing closed neither with Liverpool nor with other clubs.”

Moreno’s contract expires at the end of the season, and a failure to agree a new deal will see Moreno leaving the club on a free deal at the beginning of the new season.

The defender is free to contact other clubs from January, as things stand.
