Alexis Sanchez gets injured when he was warming up on the sidelines.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United lost their first competitive game in two months to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. The hosts were beaten 2-0 by Thomas Tuchel’s French outfit who were the best side at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Angel Di Maria did not enjoy the reception, but he did the talking with his feet. The Argentine International set up two goals to his name which was calmly converted by Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe.

To make things worse for the Red Devils, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard were withdrawn because of injuries and Paul Pogba will not be featuring next game because of the suspension.

During the half-time mark, Alexis Sanchez replaced Jesse Lingard who was forced off due to a hamstring issue. The Chilean International did not have a great effect on the game and looked clueless with the ball.

Throughout the game, the former Arsenal and Barcelona forward completed zero takeons and shot zero times and contributed nothing to the forward play. However, it is understood that Sanchez picked up an injury when he was warming up in the sidelines.

According to Daily Mail, the 30-year-old collided with the linesman Fabiano Preti while he was jogging. Despite picking up a knock, he came on as a substitute and he told United’s medical team that he is suffering from knee pain.

The United player remained on the pitch and continued to warm up before the second half and put himself in major trouble. Like Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez is a major doubt for the FA Cup clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Clearly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unhappy with the performance of Alexis Sanchez on Tuesday. Stats suggest that the Manchester United forward had one of the worst games in United’s colours.

“I can’t do anything about Alexis Sánchez,” he said.

“When he plays, he needs to find himself because we know there’s a quality player there.”

Former Manchester United winger Paul Ince has heavily criticized Alexis Sanchez for showing a huge dip in the form.

“The way Alexis Sanchez is playing at the moment is nothing short of a disgrace. His performances are a joke for the wage he gets.

“I wouldn’t begrudge his high wage, either, if I thought that he was truly putting his all in and playing well, but when you give someone that kind of money you expect a lot more.

“The fans deserve better, Ole deserves better, and so do the rest of his team.” said Ince.

“Maybe he has the hump because he’s not in the starting XI, but that’s hardly a surprise! He’s been hopeless, completely all over the place.

“There has to be a decision made about his future at Old Trafford, because it’s not working. But this is the dilemma when you keep sacking managers, players the previous boss bought in on high wages are impossible to get rid of – so you have to try and make them work in your team.

“He’s a million miles away from being at his best, he looks like a completely different player.”
