Alonso to stay in F1 for another year, confirms Marca
Fernando Alonso is trying to redefine his goals in motorsport. Due to his varied ‘goals’, Alonso’s F1 future has looked a little uncertain, as he tries to become only the second man in motorsport history to win the triple crown.
For that he’ll now turn his focus to Indianapolis 500 and could thus gradually get phased out of F1.
However, recent reports in Marca suggest that Fernando Alonso is going to give F1 a chance for one more year, as he craves for a year full of podiums and victories.
When McLaren made the switch from Honda to Renault, McLaren and Alonso had hoped that they could be challenging the ‘Big 3’ for podiums.
That hasn’t quite come true for the Spaniard and his team, as they have endured another painful start to the season, one that has seen them improve from last season in reliability, but it hasn’t quite provided them with the ‘performance impetus’ that was needed to challenge the top 3 teams.
Further, Marca has also reported that McLaren wouldn’t be the team that Alonso might race for next season, as Renault have stepped up their interest in signing the Spaniard.
In the next few weeks Alonso will judge how the McLaren responds to the Renault upgrade and if it is competitive enough to be able to help Alonso challenge for podium finishes.
If the ‘McLaren problem’ persists, Marca reports that Alonso would seriously be in contention for that Renault seat, a move that could benefit both the driver and the team.
Do you see Alonso making the switch next year?
