Alvaro Morata: Chelsea striker seals permanent Atletico Madrid transfer

Alvaro Morata has sealed a permanent transfer to Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid on a one-year loan deal, with a view for permanent transfer next year. The transfer fee set to be an amount of around £50 million, which is nearly the fee they paid to Real Madrid two years back.

The Spanish International spent his second part of the season at Wanda Metropolitano – impressing Diego Simeone in the process. He has made no secret about his desire to leave the reigning Europa League winners after lack of game time and trust from the managers.

In a statement released by Chelsea, it read the following:

” Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have today agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Alvaro Morata.

Morata, who is on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season, will now join Atletico in a permanent switch after two years as a Chelsea player.

We would like to thank Alvaro for his contribution and wish him the best of luck for the future.”

It was a tough spell for the striker, who scored just 24 times from 72 appearances at Stamford Bridge. The former Real Madrid striker failed to reach the expectations and was benched by the French International Olivier Giroud.

He was given some spell during the first part of the last season, but Maurizio Sarri traded Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea. That ended the road for Alvaro Morata at Chelsea, who is now on his course to seal a permanent deal at Atletico Madrid.

A transfer believed to sit at around the £50 million ($63m) mark will then be officially pushed through on June 1, 2020.

Atletico said in a statement released on the club’s official website: “Atletico de Madrid and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of Alvaro Morata from July 1, 2020.

“The Spanish striker will play at our club on loan this season, as was agreed when he joined Atletico de Madrid in the January transfer window, and the move will become permanent at the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

“Morata made his debut at our club on Feb. 3 against Betis. Since then, the Spaniard has played 17 games and scored six goals.”
