Ambati Rayudu announces his retirement from all forms of Cricket post selection snub in the Indian World Cup 2019 squad

The Indian middle order batsman and almost a certain batsman at no.4 in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, Ambati Rayudu has called it quits, announcing his retirement from all forms of Cricket on Wednesday, in a written submission to the BCCI.

The shocking decision comes after the latest set of developments in the 15-member Indian squad post the injuries of some major players. It is worth mentioning that despite not making it into the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup, the 33-year-old was announced as a stand-by along with the flamboyant wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant.

Mayank Agarwal’s inclusion in the squad

After India’s star opening batsman- Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the squad with a broken thumb, it was almost certain that Rayudu, who had played much International Cricket for India off-late in the limited overs format, will be announced as his replacement.

But, Rishabh Pant, who had only played only 5 ODIs for India up till that point was picked over him.

But, what perhaps might have been the ‘this is it’ moment for the right-hander was the inclusion of the yet to make an ODI debut- Mayank Agarwal in the squad as a replacement for the injured Vijay Shankar.

The 3-D glass tweet

Many believe that his 3-D glass tweet post his selection snub from the 15-member World Cup squad, was the prime reason for him not getting picked up despite the two aforementioned batsman getting injured in the middle of the marquee tournament.

For those who are unaware, the MSK Prasad led selection committee had picked Vijay Shankar over Rayudu, as according to Prasad, the former brought into play all the three dimensions viz. Batting, Bowling, and fielding into his game.

The 33-year-old in his bid to ridicule the decision, tweeted that he had ordered a new set of 3-D glasses for watching the World Cup.
