Ambati Rayudu fails Yo-Yo Test, set to be dropped for England Tour
Ambati Rayudu’s career took an upward turn during IPL 2018, when the Indian veteran was drafted into the CSK side and given the opportunity to open the innings.
He piled on the runs under the able leadership of MS Dhoni and helped CSK get the perfect start in almost all games.
Even when he was pushed down the order to accommodate du Plessis at the top, he managed to find those runs during the middle overs.
As a result of his rich vein of form, he was drafted into the Indian ODI squad for the England tour, a chance that he had waited for a long time.
However, it now seems that Rayudu has blown away that chance, as he couldn’t clear the mandatory Yo-Yo test today, falling short of the 16.1 cut-off.
Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri have made it very clear that only players who manage to get past that threshold of 16.1 will be allowed to play in the Indian setup, thereby setting a very clear fitness benchmark in order to play for India.
Rayudu’s score was somewhere in region of 14, as reported by Sportskeeda.
As a result of this, Rayudu will not find himself on the plane to England and will be replaced by another candidate in due course of time.
Earlier this week, Sanju Samson had been ruled out of the India A squad as he had failed his Yo-Yo test. Ishan Kishan was slotted into the team for him.
Virat Kohli too had to face the stern Yo-Yo test after the neck injury that he had suffered during the IPL, however, the Indian captain came out with flying colours.
