Ander Herrera transfer news: The Manchester United midfielder has stepped up impressively under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United have had a revival under the Norwegian manager ever since his appointment last month. The club brought Solskjaer to replace Jose Mourinho.

The side is yet to draw or lose a game under Solskjaer, and has scored 16 goals in the five games under his charge.

Ander Herrera is one of the midfielders who has been performing brilliantly under Solskjaer. The Spanish footballer partnered Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in the midfield, and has been a workhorse for the side so far.

However, his former club Athletic Bilbao has now confirmed that they’re interested in bringing Ander Herrera back in the summer transfer window.

Ander Herrera transfer news:

The Spanish midfielder signed for Manchester United from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in 2014, in Louis van Gaal’s first season in-charge. He has since been one of the mainstays in United’s first-team, until Mourinho’s second season, when the arrival of Nemanja Matic forced him to spend time on the sidelines.

However, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ander Herrera formed a midfield trio with both Matic and Pogba, and has been efficient for the side so far.

Athletic Bilbao’s director of football Rafa Alkorta has now confirmed that the club is interested in bringing Ander Herrera back.

In an interview with Spanish radio channel Cadena SAR, Alkorta said, “We are interested in Javi Martinez, Ibai Gomez, Ander Herrera, Fernando Llorente… all of them interest us.”

According to the club’s transfer policy, Athletic Bilbao can only sign the players born in Basque Country, and Ander Herrera, as well as the others players mentioned, came through the youth ranks of the Basque clubs.

Ander Herrera’s contract at the club expires at the end of the summer, but Manchester United recently activated a release clause which has extended his time to an additional year at Old Trafford.

However, the midfielder is free to talk with other clubs since January 1 this year.
