Andre Russell: ICC confirms the replacement for injured West Indian Allrounder in a media release.

West Indies’ world cup campaign has been one of misery and haplessness. After their 7-wicket win against Pakistan, they have collected losses from every team they’ve encountered in the field. To make matters worse, they will now miss the services of allrounder, Andre Russel to a Knee Injury.

The West Indies have sent Batsman twenty six year old, Sunil Ambris in his stead and the ICC have confirmed the replacement.

“The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 has approved Sunil Ambris as a replacement player for Andre Russell in the West Indies squad for the remainder of the tournament,” the ICC said in a statement.

Andre Russell walked into the world cup following a fantastic season of the recently concluded IPL. The swashbuckling allrounder, who plays for KKR, scored 510 runs at an average of 56.7 and a mind-boggling strike rate of 204.8! The West Indian also picked up 11 wickets to win the player of the tournament.

However, Russel failed to recreate the same magic in the West Indian Maroon. The West Indian only bagged 36 runs and 5 wickets in total. His best bowling performance being the 2 for 4 against Pakistan in their only victory in the quadrennial event.

Russell missed the agonizing 5 run loss to New Zealand and will play no further part for the West Indies.
