Ozil has been an integral component of the side for several years. His performances have however, dripped in the last few seasons with him scoring just one goal and made three assists in 23 appearances this term. Arsenal have identified a player to take over from him and are very keen to bring him in.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato (via The Sun), Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Julian Draxler in the summer. However, his wages would be an obstacle to the transfer.

The midfielder joined PSG from Wolfsburg in January 2017. However, this season he has made considerably fewer appearances than in either of his previous two full seasons.

Draxler will also enter the final year of his contract this summer and PSG are expected to listen to offers. Arsenal want to snap the German. Although, the North London club would struggle to match his wage of £120,000-per-week even if they get Ozil, who earns nearly three times as much – off the books.

Arsenal are however, hopeful at Draxler’s good relationships with Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin could persuade him to make the switch and perhaps even convince him to take a pay cut.

Draxler, who is five years younger than Ozil, is also pursued by one other unnamed Premier League club and German giants Hertha Bellerin.
