Arsenal News: Gunners defender Sokratis hits new low with shameful action vs Aston Villa

Arsenal News: Gunners defender Sokratis hits new low with shameful action vs Aston Villa in their Premier League encounter last night.

Arsenal bought in a number of signings this season to bolster their midfield and attack. However, they largely ignored their defence, one area where they actually needed rebuffing. Their only recruit at the centre-back position being David Luiz.

This has meant that Arsenal has played a very frail backline that consists of David Luiz and Sokratis at the heart of their defence. As a result, the Gunners have had a hard time preventing the opposition from scoring. They have already conceded 10 goals in 6 matches with the opposition pushing at least 2 goals past them in their last 4.

The defence laid to waste Aubameyang’s brace in their previous match against Watford and almost lost them the match against Aston Villa last night. However, late strikes from Callum Chambers and Aubameyang gave them a 3-2 win after Nicolas Pepe scored a penalty to equalise.

With 3 points secured, as barely as it gets, Arsenal are instead making news for the shameful showing of their Centre Back Sokratis who has once again made a mockery of the club; this time for his on-field antics instead of his poor defending.

Involved in a tussle with Aston Villa striker Wesley for the ball, Sokratis tied his head around his opposition’s knees before headbutting his own hand. He then fell to the ground in an attempt to win a free kick for his side.

This moment may not have had much of an impact in the game. However, with Arsenal one man down, this was a time for all their players to stand up and make their participation count. Instead, Sokratis tried to cheat his way to a win.
