Arsenal scouts have been seen scouting Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo.
Arsenal are in a mood to revamp their whole squad. The likes of Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira were signed on a permanent basis, whilst Denis Suarez has a temporary contract until the end of the season.
The defensive nature of Arsenal have been shown more often than not under the management of Unai Emery this term. It is no brainer that the Spaniard would be keen to welcome another two new faces to the backline in the forthcoming summer window.
Former Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis has been a decent signing, but there is a loophole at the back which is worrying for the Gunners. Shrokdan Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny will not walk into a top-four side. Rob Holding was impressive until a knee injury hampered his process.
The full-back options have also been nothing short of bang average. Hector Bellerin is expected to stay out of the team’s contention for the next six months. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Stephen Leichsteiner are the other backups. Nacho Monreal has extended his contract, but there is no doubt that Emery will be looking for an orthodox left-back after the defensive struggles of Sead Kolasinac.
In order to bolster their left-back department, Unai Emery has sent scouts to Portugal to watch SL Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo. The Spanish defender has been one of the standout players in the Portuguese League and has attracted plenty of interest from a host of European clubs.
The Portuguese publication A Bola report that Arsenal are one among the clubs to watch Alejandro Grimaldo as they seek to make a transfer for the 23-year-old. The report adds on that the scouts were seen during Benfica’s 10-0 rout against Nacional on Sunday. The Spanish International opened the scoring for the hosts in that game.

It is also understood that there has been intense interest from Atletico Madrid who are keen to find a replacement for Filipe Luis. Manchester City is the other side to watch him from the stands as they search for left-back options following two long term injuries to Mendy.

There is a close tussle with the Citizens to land him, but it will be interesting to see where he would end up. The qualification to the Champions League will prove to be decisive to land Grimaldo.
