Arsenal Transfer News: Arsenal Line Up Diego Costa Move After Atletico Madrid Severe Ties With The Striker: The Premier League side are touted to make an approach for the striker in a bid to bolster their ranks
Embroiled in a fresh controversy, Atletico Madrid decided they wanted nothing more to do with troublemaker Diego Costa. With news emerging only on Monday that the La Liga side’s striker wanted to move out of the club, Atletico Madrid moved quickly to grant his wish and ensure no disruptions were caused in their ranks.
Atletico Madrid And Costa Break Contract
Confirming that they have ended Costa’s contract at the club, Atletico Madrid were clearly left miffed by Costa’s antics. The player is said to have missed practice on Monday in a bid to push through a move from the club, tactics he had previously deployed at Chelsea as well.
The club confirmed the latest development on its site with a statement affirming that Costa had wanted to depart the side due to personal reasons.
Club statement: Atlético de Madrid and Diego Costa have reached an agreement for the termination of the striker’s contract, which was to end on June 30, 2021. The striker asked to leave the club for personal reasons a few days ago and on Tuesday signed the termination of his contract.
Arsenal Line Up Diego Costa Move After Atletico Madrid Severe Ties With The Striker
While Costa is yet to really have any suitors for his services given the frenzy with which the recent set of events have unravelled, Arsenal has emerged as a possible destination. News emerging from Spain claim the Premier League is keeping an eye out on the striker with AS confirming that the striker had emerged as a target for Arsenal come January.
Brazilian Willian who has previously played alongside Costa at Chelsea could play a hand in urging the player to move to the club. Willian had earlier this year acknowledged Costa’s ability to make life cumbersome for oppositions.
When asked Costa, Willian had replied: “A great guy, on the pitch that’s how he behaves, he annoys every defender. He is a striker that no defender wants to face.
“He really is annoying. He makes a whole mess, gets the defenders a few yellow cards and after that they get scared of making a mistake and get the red card.
“I played against him once I think in a Champions League semi-final. The year I arrived at Chelsea, we reached the semi-finals against Atletico but thank god after that we only played together.”
The 32 year old Costa is now available on a free after his contract was curtailed with 6 months still on it. Having re-joined the club back in 2018, Costa had only played twice for Atletico Madrid this season with injuries and dwindling form seeing him drop down the club’s pecking order.
