Atletico de Kolkata have appointed former Man Utd striker Teddy Sheringham as head coach
Atletico de Kolkata have started bolstering their squad for the upcoming ISL season, by roping in Manchester United’s celebrated striker, Teddy Sheringham, as the head coach for the ISL 2017 season.
Sheringham was part of the famous treble winning Manchester United squad of 1999, scoring the all important equaliser in the 90th minute, following a scuff from Ryan Giggs.
In his playing days Sheringham played for West Ham United and Tottenham Spurs(aprt from Man United) before hanging up his boots and entering Football Management.
Sheringham was given the role of an ‘attacking coach’ in his tenure with West Ham during the 2014-15 season and did quite a splendid job, working with players like Payet, Kouyate and Lanzini.
But he quit his job and shifted to Stevenage(a League 4 side) for a more full fledged coaching role.
The ISL side initially pushed for Ashley Westwood, a Manchester United Academy graduate, but due to a few issues with the authorities, they could appoint him only as the Technical director.
Atletico de Kolkata would now look to adopt an ‘English playing’ style, especially with Westwood and Sheringham at the helm of affairs.
ATK have had to deal with a lot of scrutiny in the last few months for not having a strong fan base in Kolkata and still getting to play in the ISL(when both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are not playing).
