Atletico Madrid criticize VAR

Atletico Madrid criticize VAR: Real Madrid defeated their city rivals in the heavyweight league clash.

Real Madrid emerged victorious in their league game against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

With this win, the Los Blancos climbed up to the second position in the league table. The side is five points behind league leaders Barcelona, who play Athletic Bilbao later today.

Casemiro, Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale were all on target in the game. However, a few refereeing decisions caused a stir and Atletico Madrid criticised the VAR on their official Twitter profile, even when Diego Simeone earlier stated that the VAR wasn’t the reason behind the loss.

The club posted screenshots from the incidents in the game which required VAR’s intervention.

Atletico Madrid criticize VAR:

Atletico Madrid questioned three vital VAR decisions which were ruled in the favour of Real Madrid.

The first controversial moment was the penalty awarded to Real Madrid after Vinicius Jr. was fouled on the left side of the box. However, the screenshot from Atletico Madrid’s post suggests that the incident took place outside the area of the box.

In the second picture, Alvaro Morata seemed to be in an onside position, but he was ruled offside in the game. The third incident also involved Morata – this time, fouled inside the box by Casemiro, according to the picture.

Here’s the post:

Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone, however, insisted that VAR was not to blame for the loss.

“I do not usually talk about the VAR,” Simeone told the media during the post-match interaction. “It will clearly improve for the good of everyone. I absolutely do not believe that we have lost because of VAR.

“It was a tough hard game in which they were better than us, more forceful. They played a very good game and we congratulate them.

“The action of the penalty [that was not given for Atletico] is an important possibility. But I am not in the head of the players, it is a question for them. We are used to the decisions of the World Cup, cutting short your celebrations of a goal and not letting you enjoy it. The players are prepared for that.”
