Alisson Injury Update: Liverpool goalkeeper estimated return date known after calf tear

Alisson Becker could miss 4-6 weeks after tearing his calf against Norwich City.

Liverpool’s Alisson Becker could face 4-6 weeks on sidelines after tearing his calf against Norwich City on Friday.

The Brazilian picked up this injury while trying to initiate the counter-attack from the back. The shot-stopper kicked the ball to the hardest and fell the pain drastically in the first half of the game. The 26-year-old was fully down until the game was stopped for him to receive the treatment.

A stretcher was called for the shot-stopper, but he was able to get back his feet and leave the pitch with the support from staffs. Liverpool’s new signing Adrian made his debut in his first game, but he was not able to prevent the strike from Teemu Pukki in the second half.

However, the hosts scored four through Grant Hanley’s own goal in the 7th minute. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, and Divock Origi added one to put the game beyond the bed.

In the post-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson had discomfort with calf and will sit out for the Super Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.

He said: “We have to see how serious it is and deal with it. It’s a calf injury. He couldn’t carry on, which is never a good sign. Wednesday he will not play.”

This situation has forced the Reds to opt for a short-term deal for a goalkeeper. Andy Lonergan, who was part of the United States’ tour, could sign a temporary deal with the club for a short period. This move comes after youngster Caoimhin Kelleher’s return from a wrist injury after a six-week layoff, which kept him out during the pre-season.

The favourable circumstance for the Reds will be the International break after three weeks. This will ingest nearly two weeks, before returning for the Champions League group stages next month.
