Aubameyang on Rojo's own goal

Aubameyang on Rojo’s own goal: The Arsenal forward has reacted to Premier League’s decision to award the goal to Rojo against United.

Arsenal dropped to 5th in the league after a draw against Manchester United on Wednesday. The Gunners climbed to fourth in the table after a crushing victory against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in season’s first derby between the two sides.

Shkodran Mustafi scored the first goal of the game, but it was cancelled out four minutes later through Anthony Martial’s strike.

In the second half, Arsenal took the lead again. While Rojo, in a desperate attempt to stop Lacazette, scored an own goal himself, there was significant debate on social media about the goal.

After Lacazette, his teammate and league’s highest goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang commented on the decision to give the goal to Rojo.

Aubameyang on Rojo’s own goal:

Alexandre Lacazette caught Rojo off-guard in the second half, and in a desperate attempt to deny the Frenchman, Rojo scored an unlucky own goal. While on the first look, it seemed Lacazette had a final touch, but replays confirmed that Rojo scored the goal.

However, Arsenal’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took to Twitter to respond to Premier League’s decision to award the goal to Rojo.

Here’s what he said:

Henrikh Mkhitaryan also joined in, telling Lacazette that he scored a good goal, as both refused to accept that it came off Rojo.

The fans on Twitter joined in the debate as well:

However, Arsenal’s lead hardly lasted a minute, as Manchester United scored from kick-off through Jesse Lingard.

Jose Mourinho later stated that Manchester United scored all the four goals, implying that the goals conceded were more due to mistakes by his players.

David De Gea committed a major howler for Arsenal’s first goal, as the goalkeeper failed to save Mustafi’s header properly. As the ball rolled over his head, Ander Herrera couldn’t stop it from crossing the goal-line.

However, like United’s second goal, Mourinho’s side’s response was almost immediate. Anthony Martial scored after a free-kick from Marcos Rojo forced Leno to make a dive.

What next?

Arsenal will meet Huddersfield in the league later tonight, where they will aim to reduce the gap with the top-4. Chelsea will play Manchester City this weekend.
