Rio Ferdinand explains why Liverpool are the favourites to win Champions League. Only Real Madrid have won back to back Champions League titles in its current format.

The pinnacle of European Football is the Champions League. Not many sides in the world have had the honour of winning one. It takes a winning mentality to clinch the elusive title. Knowing that a bad game could end your tournament is a pressure not many can handle.

Former England defender, Rio Ferdinand won the title back in 2008 with Manchester United. It is safe to assume that the man knows a thing or two about winning and Ferdinand is backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to retain the Champions League title they won earlier this year.

Before the season began, many assumed that either of Atletico Madrid or Manchester City would win because of the quality in their squad. However, Ferdinand believes that Liverpool have the most complete team and could go on to register their second European Championship on the trot.

“Liverpool just look the most complete team,” said Ferdinand on BT Sport.

“They have got that mentality now. They were on the cusp of winning for a few years and they got over the line last season.

The former Manchester United defender also admitted that he saw Liverpool overcoming their Premier League drought this season.

“They look like they are going to win the Premier League and they have that mentality that they aren’t going to lose. They know they are going to win.”
