After the traumatic departure of Neymar, Barcelona fans would be forgiven for assuming the worst before this season even began. But it looks like Barcelona are close to signing both Coutinho and Dembele in a blockbuster double deal.

While they need to accept that Neymar is no longer a part of Barcelona, Barca fans will need to start thinking about the future. Before the summer transfer window began, Barcelona were looking at strengthening their defense and midfield.

Their number one target was Marco Verratti, who refused to move from PSG. Now they are chasing Liverpool’s Phillippe Coutinho, who seems poised to join Barcelona. There have also been few reports that said that Barcelona are close to signing a center back, Inigo Martinez.

Reports have emerged that Coutinho has agreed personal terms with Barcelona, and now it is only left for the clubs to agree upon a fee. Though Liverpool are holding out for a fee of around 100 million euros, but there is a sense that a compromise will be reached very soon.

In addition to Coutinho, Barcelona are looking to prize away Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele for a fee of around 80 million euros. The French youngster earned rave reviews for his performances last year, as Dembele caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs across Europe.

Dortmund are unlikely to sell Dembele easily, which is why Barcelona will have to shell out a significant chunk of money in order to get their man.

A large part of the 222 million euros that club received from Neymar’s transfer will go into buying Coutinho and Dembele. While Dembele will be expected to take Neymar’s place in the front three, Coutinho on the other hand will be looking to fill Andres Iniesta’s huge shoes at the club.

If Barcelona can pull off these deals, then their fans will be feeling a lot more optimistic about the upcoming season.

Let’s see what happens!
