Brazilian forward Malcom was one of football’s hottest young properties currently available for sale in the market.
The 21 year old is now on the books of Bordeaux where he has had a memorable time of two years. He has been on the transfer buckets of a lot of top clubs in Europe including Barcelona and AS Roma among others.
Bordeaux agreed a deal with AS Roma on Monday evening for a transfer of Malcom. It was subject to personal subjects being discussed and a medical examination being passed by the former Corinthians star. However, despite an official announcement yesterday about the transfer, Barcelona have swooped in an secured his services for €41 million
A statement released by Bordeaux on Monday read: “FC Girondins de Bordeaux informs you that an agreement has been reached, subject to the signature of the administrative documents, with AS Roma for the transfer of Malcom.” Despite the statement being made, the French club pulled out of the deal as they are of the opinion that Barcelona will pay more for the player. Earlier, Sky Sports in Italy also reported the news online which was later made public.
Roma will now be fuming at their French sellers who played the cheap man’s hand in the deal despite public announcements from both parties.
As a professional, it is quite clear that Malcom will love this move to the west of Europe rather than Italy. However, this is something that could be questioned keeping in mind that there is a huge risk of the 21 year old spending an ample amount of time only as a substitute.
Nonetheless, his statistics prove to be promising and he could show the same flare wherever he plays. Having scored 12 goals in 30 appearances last season, he is also on the wish lists of Inter Milan and Everton.
