Griezmann’s release clause was originally set at €200m. However, that figured dropped down significantly to 120m on the first of July. Barcelona then swooped in and prised the star forward from Atletico.
Atletico now claim that they’ve been shorthanded by Barcelona. They argue that a deal was stuck between the player and the club well before his release clause was reduced. This they believe, entitles them to the full amount of at €200m.
Over to La Liga
Spanish publication Sport have reported that Altetico attempted to report the matter to FIFA. However, FIFA has no jurisdiction over disputes between two teams from the same association. This has prompted them to hand in a complaint to the La Liga officials and those in power at the Spanish FA (RFEF).

The 6 person La Liga committee comprises of representatives from both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The two may be forced to sit out of the hearing though. There has been no official comment made yet on the issue. The case will proceed in all earnest on Thursday. However, Griezmann’s playing license will not be affected and the World cup winner can continue to represent Barcelona.
