Barcelona news: Barca star takes savage dig at Man Utd playing style ahead of CL clash

Barcelona will take on Man Utd in the quarterfinal of the Champions League next week. However, a Barca star has taken a savage dig at United’s playing style.

Barcelona will aim to end a series of disappointing results in the quarterfinals of the Champions League when they take on Manchester United next week.

The Catalans are currently at the top of the table in the league, and a win against Atletico Madrid will all but seal another La Liga title. And Ernesto Valverde’s men will hope to shift their focus solely on their Champions League run – a competition where Barcelona hasn’t had significant success for some years.

Manchester United entered the quarterfinals after a shock win over PSG in the round-of-16. After losing the first leg 2-0, a second-string United side pulled a stunning turnaround to beat PSG 3-1.

As Barcelona prepares for the first leg at Old Trafford, club’s midfielder Ivan Rakitic took shots at Manchester United’s playing style.

Ivan Rakitic on Man Utd:

Talking to magazine ‘GQ’, Ivan Rakitic took dig at Manchester United over their playing style. He stated that Solskjaer knows his best side, but there’s no point in ‘playing like Barcelona’ and lose.

“You have to know your best side, And the new Man United manager seems to know that,” Rakitic began.

“If you have to fight a bit more or play counterattacking then you do what is best.

“A lot of teams would like to play like Barcelona and have possession. But if you have possession and you lose the game finally, then it’s for nothing and I would not be happy.”

However, he added that the English sides are strong in the competition and praised Manchester United for pulling out a win with limited resources in Paris.

“We saw how good they were and we know English clubs are strong at the moment.

“Man United is having good results and to score three goals in Paris was incredible. You have to respect Manchester for this comeback, for the organisation and fight in the team with so many young players.”

What next?

Both the sides will meet each other on April 10.
