Jesse Lingard has failed to score or assist in 11 months out of last 12 months

Jesse Lingard has failed to score or assist in 11 months out of the last 12 months.

Manchester United had some chances to convert against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by the Wolves in Molineux, but poor finishing from Jesse Lingard cost them again.

The attacking midfielder was a splendid position to extend the lead to two, but he failed to grasp it. When Aaron Wan-Bissaka pulled the ball back to find the academy graduate just outside the six-yard box, Lingard messed it up badly. He failed to take a touch, as a result, the ball struck his thigh before ricochetting his face.

When the game was in parity during the second half, Manchester United right-back vision to pick out Jesse Lingard was exceptional. Wolves defender Willy Boly got a slight touch, but Lingard could have easily reacted to that and controlled the ball. It was another chance spurned for the Red Devils, who procured a point in the second game of the Premier League season.

There is no shortage of supply for Jesse Lingard, but his decisiveness in the final third has been abysmal over the last twelve months. The English International, who was once touted as the next huge talent, has found the back of the net in December 2018, and failed to contribute in the last twelve months.

This comes as a worrying stat for the Red Devils, who are in a revamp process under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Jesse Lingard has been poor except for some games, and the English International should be dropped in the upcoming game.

Solskjaer said it was a good performance in the first half, while the second half display was nothing short of pathetic.

The Red Devils manager said: “First half was a mature performance. Second half was a bit sloppy. We are improving. We are a young team, who will learn, we learned on the pitch tonight.”

“Wolves probably got the goal they deserved. I thought we took control again and could have won it.

We get a penalty and normally would get us two points, sometimes the keeper makes good saves.”
