Manchester City have shown interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets. The Barcelona superstar is set to rejoin Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as rumours continue to swirl about his departure from the club.

The 29-year old Spaniard is a product of the La Masia academy and has been a integral part of the Catalan midfield ever since the time Guardiola took charge of Barcelona during the summer of 2012.

Manchester City have not refrained from spending this summer and brought in every player deemed necessary for the club in all parts of the field. Yet, the defensive midfield area is something they still need to reinforce.

The departure of Fernando to Galatasaray leaves only two men- Yaya Toure and Fernandinho who  play the position.

Barcelona, on the other hand have had a relatively bad transfer market. They are yet to deal with the blow of PSG pulling Neymar away and are no closer in filling the gaps left. They have also failed to sign any of their targets, including Marco Verratti and Paolo Dybala.

Despite the Citizens spending big on 5 first team players, Guardiola still sees need for such a player.  He is one of the most talented and established midfielders in the world. He looks to reunite with his former boss under whom he reached the heights of his glory.

Tiki-taka – the best known style of Barcelonean play has dimmed ever since Guardiola’s departure. Focus has shifted from midfield to attack with the signing of Luis Suarez and Neymar. The team has only been moving away ever since, and Busquets no longer looks like he fits the system.

It makes sense that Pep is interested in signing him, a move which could benefit both parties. If Valderve decides not to bring back the tiki-taka style of play, he can afford to let him go and replace him with someone attacking minded, a killer in the centre of play.

The Spaniard could also be looking forward to a reunion with his former boss, but whether the Blaguarna let go of one of their best players remains a mystery.
