Manchester United have cooled down their interest in Harry Maguire and are now chasing Yerry Mina.

Manchester United are late traffic in this summer’s transfer window. The Red Devils are in the hunt for a central defender with the transfer deadline set to arrive in just one week’s time. Jose Mourinho has been candid to the board of directors and asked them to deliver to major signings.

According to SKY, Yerry Mina has been shortlisted by Jose Mourinho after being baffled by Harry Maguire’s and Toby Alderweireld’s asking prices. The Colombian centre back is one of football’s hottest prospects in the backline. He had an impressive World Cup with Colombia in which he scored three goals.

Yerry Mina was signed by Barcelona last winter from Palmeiras. Just six months into his Barcelona spell, Mina is set to leave the club. The 23 year old has been unable to hunt down a starting berth at the Camp Nou. There is severe competition from Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti who have stamped their authority in central defence.

Yerry Mina was on Everton’s radar as well, but the Red Devils have stepped up pursuit and could sign the defender as early as Friday. Barcelona and Yerry Mina are both looking to go their separate ways. The Catalan club is looking to vacate one of three non-EU spots in the team, while Mina wants more playing time.

Manchester United representatives are now in Spain to complete the signing. It has also been claimed that Barcelona will enter a buyback clause into Yerry Mina’s deal to Barcelona. This will be done in spite of Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti being present to succeed the 30 year old Gerard Pique.

To clear up the blocks, Jose Mourinho could offload either Marcos Rojo or Chris Smalling. The Argentine is on Wolves’ radar but no suitor has been found to sign Smalling. Manchester United kick off their Premier League at the Old Trafford with the visit of Leicester City on 10th August.
